Amazing Love!

“We love because he first loved us.”  1 John 4:19

His love is the greatest love there is, and we love because of that!  As you go about your day today, just think of how much Christ loves us and what he did for us, make sure to share some of His love with others so that they may see Him through you!

Need More Storage?

Are you always needing more storage space?  Well, we sure are and recently Justin and I were able to use an empty space in our home for extra storage!  With 6 people living under one roof there’s always so much stuff, and I’m sure many of you can relate.  So, what did we do?  We used an empty HVAC space in our home, we got a new air unit last year and so now we had this really big space in our laundry room that was being used for absolutely nothing, all while we were constantly having issues keeping all of our stuff out of the way, even after going through just about everything we own and getting rid of a ton of stuff (I’ll post about that later).  We had to do something and since it was going to be a little while until we’re able to get a storage building we had to work with what we’ve got.

So, we……. Ok, mostly Justin got to work knocking out the rest of the drywall to open it up fully and we bought some shelving which you can get really inexpensively at most hardware stores, we got ours from Lowes and got to work on making our space, and now we’ve got a lot of extra space to put lots of things mostly the stuff that just seems to collect at our house, and at the moment the majority of that is books (that’s what you get with homeschoolers), and art supplies, purses, and diaper bags, holiday decorations, and some storage bins that needed to find a home.

Now, I know that not everyone has an empty space where your HVAC used to go, but if you really think about it hard I’m sure you could find some extra space you never knew you had.  Is there extra space in your closet somewhere, or maybe just a couple shelves in your child’s rooms?  We actually put up 4 shelves in Jeremiah’s room last year and they have been great for holding tons of things especially toys that go into bins like legos, Lincoln logs, and tinker toys that used to always end up spread all over the place every single day by the little one’s who weren’t even interested in playing with them.

How do you find room for all of your stuff?  Did this post help you out?  Let me know how you choose to organize it all!

C Is For Cow!

This week in our homeschool we have been learning about cows this has been a really fun………. and really yummy unit to do.  I wanted to share with you what we made today.

We made butter and it turned out great, at first I had my suspicions and started to wonder if I had done it wrong but after we kept going we saw the changes that were supposed to be happening and then it got really exciting.  The kids loved making their own butter!  Here are the steps:

First off, pour your whipping cream into a container most things suggest a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid but these plastic containers were far less expensive and worked very well although if I would have gotten something with a screw on lid it would work better for the younger one’s I had to help Caidence when she shook it. Then find an adorable volunteer shaker or two and start shaking!

After you shake it for about 15 minutes you will start to see whipped cream like this:

After that, if you’re like we were the kids will be totally tired of shaking and want to start to see some butter, so we ended up pulling out our food processor to move the process along a little bit we just used the regular chopping blade

Let it mix for a minute and it started to take shape and look like this:

Finally, we decided to separate the butter milk from the butter and then add the milk back to the food processor to smooth it out a bit more:

Then comes the most fun of all you get to serve it up and eat it:

….. I wonder if it tastes better with a cute smile like this!

Some other things you may want to teach your child along with this would be to let them know that milk helps them grow just as God’s word helps them to grow spiritually, read the bible with them everyday and if they’re old enough to read the bible themselves give them a journal to write down what they have read and how it speaks to them and how they can use it in their everyday lives. Here’s a verse for you as well.

“You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you can grow into the fullness of your salvation. Cry out for this nourishment as a baby cries for milk” 1 Peter 2:2

* For those of you wondering, the food processor that I use is a black & decker FP1600B it holds 8 cups, it works so great, I’ve had it for a couple of years, I use it all the time and it works just as great as it did when I first got it.

Resourceful Tip

I know that part of this blog is about being resourceful, and I haven’t put up too many things but here is one thing that we do that really helps us out, especially during the summertime with our vegetable garden and saving on our water bill.

We got some rain collection barrels, we just got two huge industrial sized barrels that come with sealing lids and whenever it’s going to rain we take the lids off and let the rain collect and once it’s stopped we put them back on so the rain doesn’t evaporate.  This saves us a ton of money on our water bill when we have our summer vegetable garden, we never have to use water other than from the barrels.

We just use a bucket to scoop water from the barrels to pour onto the garden, but you can also cut a hole in the bottom of the barrels and put a spout that can be connected to your water hose for easier use, we just haven’t done this yet not sure if we will this year or not.  Just thought I would share this little tip with you!
